The BFG, Skellig, Aubrey… children’s books boom

Over the past few years we’ve been led to believe that children were abandoning books and reading in droves in favour of video games and social media. Yet according to The Bookseller: “Children are now reading more and want to read print.” In fact, sales of children’s books rose by 16% to £365m last year.

Moreover, bucking the trend for magazines to go online, new children’s magazine – Scoop – is nearing its first birthday and surviving against the odds. Its founder, Clementine Macmillan-Scott, believes the magazine’s success is due to the dynamic market and says that “through the hundreds of children, parents and teachers we speak to at our workshops, we know that children are greedy for storytelling.”
