Children denied chance to develop ‘resilience’ by too-strict health and safety rules

The Chief Inspector of Schools, Amanda Spielman, has said that an over-cautious culture in schools is holding back children and limiting their experiences. Writing in the Sunday Telegraph, she gave examples of teachers popping children’s balloons because they are dangerous and cancelling sports day because of dew on the grass.

“I want Ofsted to make sure that schools are properly focused on pupil safety but that it doesn’t come at the expense of opportunities to broaden and enrich young minds”.
