There is much concern about the growing number of mental health issues in children and adults. Now Suzanne Skeete, a mental health worker, has raised the alarm about self-harm among primary school children, even children as young as 3.
“These same children, as they get older, will often use razors from pencil sharpeners, or glass. They do it to get rid of pent-up feelings. Physical pain lets them temporarily escape their mental pain,” says Skeete, who runs Tappy Twins, a non-profit social enterprise that sends counsellors into nurseries and schools.
