Closing the tech gender gap starts in childhood

Overwhelming evidence exists to show that the early years are critical in shaping “how we see the world and our place in it”. Now it seems that even by the age of 7 children may have formed strong views about the sort of jobs that men and women should do. And a study by the Institution of Engineering and Technology has found that it is often a parent’s perception of the suitability of different jobs that deters girls from following careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM subjects).

Although projects exist to encourage young women embarking on careers into the STEM sector, can more be done to close the gap in early childhood?
