‘The constant testing in our education system puts children off reading for pleasure

In an impassioned article, Robert Smith, creator of the Literacy Shed and a former teacher, urges that children should be allowed to read for the sheer joy of it and not continuously given tasks and tests based upon what they have read. He talks about his own childhood and early pleasurable memories of reading at home, but understands that not every child is so privileged, which is why it is so important for a love of reading to be fostered in schools.
