Too much information? More than 80% of children have an online presence by the age of two

So called ‘sharenting’ has been in the news quite a lot recently, a term applied to the way in which parents are posting photos and information about their children’s lives on social media sites. 42% of UK parents share such photos online, with the average parent sharing 1500 photos before their children are 5.

Though ‘sharenting’ allows parents to share advice, garner support and keep in touch with relatives and friends, some of the information shared is deemed to be inappropriate.  For instance, “sharenting can result in the identification of a child’s home, childcare or play location or the disclosure of identifying information which could pose risks to the child”.
