Nature is the best way to nurture pupils with special educational needs

We know how important spending time outdoors is to our health and well-being, and a school in Fulham is proving how beneficial it is to children with special educational needs. “Our children with SEN benefit from how the outdoors relieves stress and anxiety, develops social skills, motivates learning across the curriculum (and beyond) and allows them to be practical, responsible and productive members of the community,” explains Emily Genochio, year 2 teacher and inclusion manager at the school. They have certainly devised some novel ways to engage children, with books ‘growing’ from the trees, for example.
