‘We need to teach children that there’s nothing you can’t do if you believe in yourself’

‘Primary Futures’ is a programme aimed at showing primary school children what life can be like beyond their school years, and encouraging them to believe that whatever career they choose can and should be fulfilling. To that end, people who have walked the walk from many different areas of life are being invited into schools to talk about their work and inspire young children.

Andreas Schleicher, director for education and skills of the OECD, which is behind the programme, said: “Giving primary school-aged children the chance to meet people from the world of work can help them to understand the relevance of subjects they are studying – and in so doing improve motivation and attainment.”
