Stuck in the past: the UK needs to produce creative thinkers not exam-passing machines

Reader in Psychology, Heriot-Watt University,  argues passionately that in our new “age of technology”, where our existence is being defined by robots, genetic engineering and AI, “we need individuals who are both scientist and artist: the creative visionaries. Instead, we are producing the very opposite”. Our education system is outmoded, focused far too much on passing exams, forcing science and the arts apart, and pushing creative subjects onto the sidelines.

“This illusory separation of art and science locks us into a two-track system that hinders discovery and stymies collaboration.”
