Summer holidays ‘bad for child health’

A study by UK Active, has found that during the summer holidays on average children lose 80% of the fitness they have built up during school term time. The greatest differential is with children from deprived backgrounds, whose parents can’t afford summer camps and sporting activities.

Dr Steven Mann, UK Active Research Director, who led the study, said the research “suggests deprived children are being plonked in front of screens for hours on end”.
