UK ‘lagging’ on health outcomes for babies and young children

According to the Nuffield Trust and Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, the United Kingdom is falling behind many other high-income countries in areas such as infant mortality, immunisation, breastfeeding and rates of obesity. In a first-ever international analysis, 14 OECD countries (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and 16 different areas of child health were measured.

“Their report – International comparisons of health and wellbeing in early childhood – concluded that, despite some impressive progress in recent decades, the UK remained a long way short of its stated ambition to be an international leader in fostering a healthy start in life.”
