UK survey reveals lack of breastfeeding peer support for millions of mothers

The UK has one of the lowest rates of breastfeeding in the world, and many mothers who would like to breastfeed feel they have no support to help them. The World Health Organisation recommends that babies should be breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months, and that breastfeeding should continue alongside other forms of feeding until a child is at least 2. Yet in the UK only 1 in 200 mothers continue to breastfeed their child beyond the first year.
